I subscribe to a business blog called “Entrepreneur’s Journey” by Yaro Starak an Australian entrepreneur who’s latest point is only too true. As a small business or individual trying to make your mark in the world of big guns the best way to promote, is to promote yourself. Instead of using the big corporation line of talk such as “we” or “us” you should refer to your business as “my” or if an individual “I” Continue reading Sound Advice

Pleasant Surprise!
Well what a turn up for the books, my youngest son from my previous marriage e-mailed me to say that he had got married to his long term girlfriend. I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting her yet but by all accounts she appears to be just what he needs to keep him stable in this uncertain world. Continue reading Pleasant Surprise!
eBay Turmoil
Well, as I thought, not even a nibble at the auction on eBay for my latest Welsh Lovespoon. Even though the carving took considerable time to make and was reflected in the price at a measly $1.50 an hour at the most, it was still priced too high. I can understand that people are looking for a bargain but I’m a little reluctant to place it at such a low price and receive $25.00. Continue reading eBay Turmoil
The Proverbial Red Dragon!
It has to be total insanity to live in Southern California and have to commute 48.25 miles to my place of work as stated by mapquest and to top it all, it suggests a 56 minute commute. Come on! Let’s get real and update this to suit the ridiculous amount of traffic that’s on the road. The fact is, when I leave work, be it 2pm or 7pm the commute is anywhere between two hours to three hours in length. You might say move closer to your place of work but why would I give up a beach side community that is within easy reach of most major attractions. Continue reading The Proverbial Red Dragon!
Surfboard Aftermath
Since the announcement of Clark Foam closure, the surfing world has been sent into panic with bulk buying of surfboards with the Clark floatation core. Prices have increased by 20 percent and some surf shops are limiting customers to a one board purchase only. Professional surfers are now going easy on their own personal boards to ensure that their livelihood doesn’t suddenly come to an abrupt end. Surf shops are enjoying the sudden surge of buying at a premium price but once the stock is gone, what’s next.
Who will take up the slack you may well ask with this humongous void being left to be filled. Maybe it will be Walker Foam, a long time competitor and now possibly the leading maker to fill Clark’s boots. Other possible candidates are Just Foam of San Clemente and Maxi Wetland of South Africa, who ever it is, they have some mighty big shoes to fill.
Either way, there is a big lesson to be learnt here, never put all your eggs in one basket, you never know what’s around the corner.
Surfboard Industry Hit by 9.0 Quake!
The surfing industry was hit broadside by the news that Clark Foam was shutting its doors after 40 years in the business. Gordon “Grubby” Clark, founder of Clark Foam notified customers by fax on Monday 5th December 2005 that it would cease production citing that local, federal and state authorities were cracking down on his plant’s use of TDI, (Toluene di-isocynate) a chemical listed as being cancer causing in the state of California. Wood of Choice
OK, it’s been a while since I’ve updated the Welsh Lovespoon section of this blog but the latest carving has also been a challenge. Not only is it intricate from a carving aspect but fitting it in during my lunch period when things have been hectic has also proved to be a challenge. The maximum carving hours for the past three weeks is, three hours a week at best. Continue reading Wood of Choice
Holiday Credit Check
The free annual credit report from the three major credit reporting agencies celebrates its first birthday this December and it has managed to survive despite its first year growing pains. When the federal law took effect last December millions of consumers converged to the website, telephoned or asked by mail for a copy of their credit reports. Continue reading Holiday Credit Check
