This last Sunday, November 20th was the last day to visit Thomas the Tank Engine at the Orange Empire Railway Museum, for us this is the second year that we have taken Jackson our son and for Madeline his sister, this was her first trip. Our pre-set time for the ride was midday so that gave us plenty of time to get from Huntington Beach to Perris a 68.4 mile journey.
On a normal day this would be an uneventful journey but Jackson was feeling a little under the weather as we set off. His favorite Thomas DVD was set into the player and he was quite content to watch the episodes while we were driving to our destination. It was reasonably chilly when we left the beach and Jackson was wearing a sweat shirt to keep him warm. Madeline settled back and had her normal early morning nap.
We were about 3 miles away when Jackson asked for a drink so a carton of apple juice was his choice. No more than 30 seconds passed before he complained of feeling sick and before we new it, up it comes all over him, down the Recaro booster seat and over the truck floor. It’s a good job that a change of clothes had been packed, over we pull and it’s a full strip down to remove the clothing and mop out the truck. Maybe it’s the heat we think as the temperature had soared to the mid 80’s and he was still wearing his sweat shirt.
Everything is repacked into the truck and on we go for the final 3 miles. The car park is absolutely jam packed and we end up parking as far into the wooded parking area as you could possibly go. The road is like a ploughed up field with ruts all over the place, fortunately we have the BOB jogger stroller with us and it easily takes care of the uneven surfaces. It was just luck that we bought the BOB with us as we were going to bring the umbrella stroller.
The place was totally full, lines at every activity, from the face painting to the Thomas toy store. Needless to say it didn’t matter as the hard part had been done and that was getting here in time for the Thomas ride. There are plenty of other rides such as the Caboose train and the Trolleys, bouncy castles, photos with Sir Topham Hatt and lots of food.
The one good thing about the museum is that it is open 363 days of the year with the next event being the Santa Train which is December 10th,11th,17th and 18th. Look forward to a full day of fun and ride the train with Santa. Next years Day out with Thomas is scheduled for November 10th, 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th 2006, so make sure you don’t miss out and book early.
