It’s the same old story whenever a new gamers console breaks on to the market. There are never going to be enough to quench the thirst for the hungry hoard. Microsoft’s new Xbox 360 went on sale at midnight on Tuesday 22nd November and with 4500 stores opening at precisely midnight throughout the nation it will set the trend for further launches in Europe and Japan.
As you might have guessed the absolute fanatics were braving the cold to try and get their hands on this sort after second generation of Microsoft’s gaming console. This new version has the additional features of playing music, displaying photos and showing DVDs.
Even though the factories are at full bore Microsoft states that the first 90 days will see 2.75-3 million units worldwide which equates to less than 20 percent of actual users within the United States! This will make for a long wait once the intial batch is sold out. It may pay to wait out the initial onslaught and save on the dollars as the systems have already hit eBay for some lucky buyers who are out for a quick profit. Some systems are already in the $1300 range for the premium version which retails at $399 and the core package is drawing bids as high as $770, a retail price of $299.
Needless to say, Chairman Bill Gates states “demand will exceed supply for quite a while.”
